The Weather Factor
No airplane pilot in his or her right mind would go for a flight without a "weather briefing." Likewise, no paraglider should go without checking the weather. The vast majority of aviation-related accidents have two causes, running out of fuel or flying into bad weather. Guess what? Most paragliding accidents are weather-related, and weather here has a broader meaning because it includes micro-meteorological phenomenons which free-flying pilots deal with every time they are in the air. That is why I think knowledge of the weather is paramount to the success of a long flying career. Or, bluntly stated: the answer to safe flying is not how well you fly once you are in the air, but how well you use your brain when you are still on the ground.
